Humor: a funny soft skill

– Humor: a funny soft skill

A funny soft skill

The sense of humor connects and has the ability to make other people laugh or to find any funny aspect even in problematic situations. In this way, humor can even help to solve conflicts – without having to be incredibly funny. At most, it makes us smile a little. You could also say: humor is the art of not taking yourself and your problems so seriously. That is why it gives humorous people enormous size: They seem to be above things.

Do you find black humor funny? Maybe it’s because you are so smart;)

Humor is a strong indicator of high intelligence. In a study conducted at the University of New Mexico, it was revealed that humor is a veritable sign of high intelligence. Those who were able to make fun of a situation or word games also performed significantly better in the intelligence tests.

Other studies described in “Cognitive Processing” prove that intelligence definitely goes hand in hand with black humor. Test subjects most appreciating and understanding dark humor had the highest score in verbal and non-verbal IQ tests, had the best education, and the lowest results of the level of aggression. Also, they rarely got into a bad mood at all.

Humor as a core professional competence

Due to the growing pressure, the routine, and the diverse requirements, employees quickly lose contact with themselves and their counterparts – customers, clients, people – in their everyday work. Establishing contact, being present for the person is based on the ability to react to physical and emotional signs. Here the work techniques of the clinic clown can be transferred to customer-oriented professions. In addition, humor, empathy, and an attentive attitude make it easier to meet people, everyday work is perceived as less stressful, and satisfaction among employees and customers increases.

Humor as a core professional competence in meeting people, be it the employee or the customer, is part of a successful corporate culture.

At the workplace

Leading employees with humor means promoting the community of the team. If people get infected with bad mood or anger through their mirror neurons, this also applies to humor. Humor thus makes an important contribution to psycho-hygiene and atmosphere in the team and ultimately also to conflict prevention.

Humor sustainably increases employee memory and motivation. Good humor even increases the memory of others! People recommend and remember better humorous people.

Humorous colleagues are more popular and are often better rated and promoted more often by their superiors. The majority ends up with higher incomes.
