Introduction
2023 European Year of Skills
Throughout the year stakeholders, including the Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, social partners, public and private employment services, chambers of commerce and industry, education and training providers, as well as workers and businesses, collaborated to champion skills development.
Started on May 9, 2023, the Year spannned 12 months, during which numerous actions and initiatives were inaugurated and advocated.

The main objectives being:
- Promoting investment in training and up-skilling, enabling people stay in their jobs or find new ones;
- Ensuring skills match the needs of employers, by closely cooperating with social partners and companies;
- Matching people’s aspirations and skill sets with opportunities on the job market, especially for the green and digital transitions and the economic recovery;
- Attracting people from outside the EU with the skills needed.

For example, the Pact for Skills has over 2500 members, and 20 Large-Scale Partnerships in all 14 Industrial Ecosystems. Already 3.5 million people have taken training courses set up under the Pact. In the coming years, the aim is to up-skill and re-skill 25 million people.
Moreover, 15 Member States are using EU funding to develop Individual Learning Accounts.
